A night in Fordsburg

Saturday night I spent in Fordsburg in the two hookah lounges, The Egyptian Cafe and Shisha Lounge and The Arabian Cafe.

At the Egyptian Cafe I met a married couple who go there every weekend. They like it there because the place makes good quality hookah and they can just relax on a Sunday evening watching Idols.

They even call the owner of the place “Uncle Yusuf”, which shows how regularly they visit. While there the owner even let us try their house dessert, an Egyptian recipe that uses pistachios.

After having an interview with them and taking some pictures I headed out to the next place the Arabian Cafe, just down the road.

The street was filled with people stopping at stalls in the night market and people parking cars in the actual road causing road blocks.

The Arabian Cafe was quite at first, but as the heat of the day started to simmer down after 8 the younger crowd started to show.

They would come with groups of friends and order some hookah with whole pineapples at the top. While there my boyfriend and I ordered a meal and shared a hookah with the regulars from the other lounge who decided to check out this lounge.

At the Arabian Cafe they were also celebrating International Hookah Day, by having another store from the area set up by the entrance.

After eating some food I walked around for a bit, talking to customers and seeing what they thought of hookah. After doing this for a while we decided to head on out, walking through the bustling streets of Fordsburg.
